Menu posted

Postby Baseball Tony on Fri Mar 21, '08 10:24 am

Luisa has posted "menus" in the window of Pompei, in that lovable, low-rent (aka cheap) style of hers -- hand-lettered and possibly in crayon. I didn't get a good look last night in the dark, so if anyone can snap a picture please do so asap....

BTW, further news on permits for 1415. As it turns out, there is another permit for the site that notes electrical and plumbing work will be done and that permits for these are required. Strangely, this permit is under her name, and doesn't appear when you search on the address, either 1415 Larkin or 1500 California. So it's down to the asbestos issue & whether the work is disturbing it.

BTW #2: still no liquor licenses for either location, nor have I seen an application. I guess she doesn't have to post the wine lsit for Pompei, that will save her 4.5 inches of scotch tape.

So I read her menu this morning.... I can atleast speak from experience that her "pasta alla bolognese" is definitely not traditional. I will take a picture of it shortly so it can be posted. Plus what is an Italian dinner with out some wine!

1500?

Postby Baseball Tony on Wed Apr 02, '08 10:35 am

Pompei out, 1500 in? In the window by the menus -- okay, the menus aren't scrawled in crayon, but there ain't no wine list -- there's a little sign that says,

1500
Pizza & Pasta
Opening Soon

A bad way to start the day: So I'm going to catch the cable car at Cal & Larkin when I notice what appears to be a bag lady sitting on the steps next to the dry cleaner. But she looks oddly familiar. And she's yakking into a cell phone. And then I catch that... voice.

Yep, it was Luisa. What a tough sight before my first cup of coffee. From the bottom up, she displayed the finest in bag lady apparel, unlaced tennis shoes with black socks, and a raincoat that looked as if it were rejected by Goodwill -- tattered in the back with white paint streaks. Disheveled hair, and I think there things moving around up there.

Well, at least she didn't recognize me, though I gave her every opportunity and stood as close as I could to try and catch the conversation. And then I hear, "HEY!" "HEY!" Oh, no, I think, the jig's up, she's gonna assault me with her cell phone or her lack of hygiene. And I turn around and she's headed right towards me....

....and continued past me to cross over California and meet someone who drove up in front of Pompei or 1500 or whatever and she bellowed a greeting. I could hear her voice clear across the street as she complained they couldn't get in.

Then the cable car arrived to take me away from this nightmare.

What a horrible start... I hope you've recovered? :)

And "1500 Pizza & Pasta"? What a lame name...

Eater SF confirmed the name change: it is indeed to be "1500" (or maybe "1500 Pizza & Pasta.") Yikes. Why not "1500 California on the Northwest Corner of Larkin Pizza & Pasta"?

In addition to the 1959 awning

Postby Baseball Tony on Fri Apr 11, '08 2:53 pm

She's started to paint over the Barleycorn green. Guess she found another sale on shinola brown at the Home Depot....

JB Green is back....

Postby Baseball Tony on Wed Apr 16, '08 12:04 pm

Whew, a disaster averted. They're painting Duffy's green, almost the same color as the old paint job. Amusingly, they installed the awning before the paint job and had to take it down again.

Or they're re-doing the awning to include "since 1959."
