My last attempt at running a poll here bombed, but I'm not giving up that easily!

My calculated hope is that Virginia's Jim Webb is Obama's VP choice. Like it or not (or detest the f**king fact, as do I & most of you out there), the Idiot Prince now occupying our White House along with his cabal of Neo-Cons have gotten us into one helluva war. Having a veteran on the ticket, especially one like Webb, has its advantages in wartime elections. On the downside, however, there is a little town in Virginia (from whence the likes of Jerry Falwell hail) called Lynchburg.

Now to be sure, there was once a man actually named James Lynch who started a ferry service there in colonial days, and it was where Chapstick was invented in the 19th century, and it is remarkably geared to the digital age now in its nascent stage --- nonetheless, it still has the word "lynch" in its name. Not being merely too racially paranoid here, though, because when I first visited there years ago as a new resident of nearby Washington, DC, there were anti-Catholic songs on the juke box of one of its restaurants' which I had just picked at random to grab a quick lunch! "Pape" was in a few of the locally produced 45rpm discs within the Wurlitzer. As an "Eye-talian" named, "Roman Church" raised, and recently (and therefore somewhat reticently) out gay guy (a/k/a in the local redneck colloquial language as a "f**ckin' kway-ur dawg") I believe they took their town's name in vain of good old Mr. James Lynch, preferring their beloved KKK's technique for murder. Needless to say, I didn't finish my sandwich, left a very handsome tip, and hightailed it out of there.

When I got back to the Red Fox Inn, where I was spending a 4-day weekend based in nearby Middleburg, the very helpful (and more-evidently gay than was I - then, at least) concierge assured me that I was safe under their roof. Why, there were even Jewish folks who were frequent guests!

I guess my point here is that I have a little too much time on my hands this Sunday evening. But really, the point is that there are more than a few mean-spirited, hate-filled "traditionalists" still thriving here in this oldest of democracies. Were I a praying man, I'd spend more of the time I'm on my knees asking some God or another to protect our next President, especially since He, She, or It let the criminals now populating our Executive Branch get by with murder, and mass murder at that!

Webb certainly is on the short list, and while I used to like the Scottish Warrior at lot I'm not so sure anymore. He has severe negatives among women -- at least those who remember his previous take on the pointlessness of women in the military -- and that's not the best way of appeasing angry Clintonistas.

He may help with "hardworking white people without a college degree" but he does nothing for the Latino vote, and I think the latter is going to be important this cycle.

That said, I'm not sure who would be a better candidate...

A few more names: Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL), Gov. Ed Rendell (PA), Sen. Bob Casey (PA), and Montana Guv Brian Schweitzer... BTW, how the heck do you vote? I tried clicking on everything!

Put me down for Webb. He has a square jaw of integrity. And, despite reports to the contrary, I think he wants it. He seems to be popping up a lot recently -- I even heard him on the radio Saturday doing NPR's news quiz show, "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!"

("Wait, Wait" is on 11 am and again at 11 pm on Saturdays, and if you've never listened to it, tune in. It's a laugh riot.)

The only way of appeasing offended Clinton backers is to make Hillary the #1 or #2. If Obama takes her or another woman, he will risk appearing as another political operator since it's such an obvious move. The main thing for him is to maintain integrity. So that's what to look for in a VP: someone who can stand next to Obama and not appear as a calculated choice but another tough liberal.

And when the feminists object, just remind them that Obama + Whoever will appoint judges to the Supreme Court that will not overturn Roe v. Wade. McCain just might. Plus, it's not like Hillary is going anywhere.

Okay, now it asked for me vote instead of posting the results, which is what I saw when I first tuned in.

Avoiding senators is a Good Thing, so mining the list of guvs may be a good idea. The problem is that they have no nationwide name recognition.

As for Bob Casey, he's not only a senator but also "pro-life". DOA.

Hillary fanboy Rendell may not be a bad choice, although he is both old and unhandsome. As are we.
